Sorry, out of stock at the moment
The Acer negundo ‘Flamingo’, also known as the Flamingo Box Elder, is a stunning variety of the Box Elder maple that can bring a splash of colour to your UK garden. This eye-catching tree is prized for its variegated foliage, which emerges in spring with a beautiful pink flush, giving it its ‘Flamingo’ name.
As the leaves mature, they develop a striking mix of green and creamy-white, often with pink margins. This vibrant foliage creates a bright, cheerful presence in the garden throughout the growing season. The ‘Flamingo’ is a smaller and more compact variety compared to the standard Box Elder, making it suitable for gardens where space might be limited.
Like other Box Elders, the ‘Flamingo’ is a fast-growing tree, so you won’t have to wait long to enjoy its full beauty. It has a naturally spreading, somewhat irregular habit that can create interesting shapes and silhouettes in your garden. This makes it an excellent specimen tree or a striking addition to mixed borders.
The ‘Flamingo’ is not just about looks; it’s also a robust and adaptable tree. It can thrive in various soil types and is tolerant of urban conditions, making it a versatile choice for both city and country gardens. In autumn, the tree produces winged seeds, or ‘keys’, which can be attractive to wildlife.
While the ‘Flamingo’ doesn’t have the dramatic autumn colour changes of some other maples, its variegated foliage provides interest throughout the growing season. The pale bark adds winter interest when the leaves have fallen, ensuring year-round appeal.
