Alder Trees
Alnus spp.
Alders – Alnus spp. are fast-growing, deciduous trees that thrive in moist soils. Their distinctive catkins and nitrogen-fixing abilities make them valuable for improving soil fertility and supporting wildlife. Ideal for wet areas, they offer year-round interest with their catkins, cone-like fruits, and attractive bark.
Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist to wet soil. Water regularly when young. Once established, they’re low-maintenance. Prune in late winter if needed. Tolerant of waterlogged conditions and resistant to most pests and diseases.
