The Sugar Maple, Acer saccharum, is a majestic deciduous tree renowned for its vibrant fall foliage and significant contribution to syrup production.

Native to the hardwood forests of North America, it is highly valued in UK gardens for its adaptability, stately growth, and stunning seasonal colour transitions. The leaves of the Sugar Maple turn a brilliant array of colours in autumn, from bright yellow to burnt orange and deep red, creating a spectacular display.

This tree thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. Growing to a height of up to 40 meters, the Sugar Maple is not only an ornamental delight but also provides valuable shade and habitat for wildlife.

Its slow to moderate growth rate and longevity make it a splendid choice for landscape designs aiming for lasting beauty and stature. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Sugar Maple’s sap is the primary source of maple syrup, adding a cultural and functional value to its presence in any garden or landscape.
