Amelanchier lamarckii, commonly known as Snowy Mespilus or Juneberry, is a captivating multi-stemmed shrub or small tree that brings year-round interest to UK gardens. This deciduous plant is celebrated for its stunning seasonal displays, beginning in early spring with a profusion of star-shaped white flowers that blanket the branches before the leaves fully emerge. These delicate blossoms create a breathtaking spectacle, resembling a dusting of snow across the plant, hence its common name. As the flowers fade, they give way to oval, copper-tinged young leaves that mature to a rich green in summer, providing a lush backdrop in the garden.

Snowy Mespilus truly comes into its own in autumn when its foliage transforms into a spectacular array of fiery oranges and deep reds, creating a warm and inviting focal point in the landscape. Adding to its appeal, small purple-black berries appear in summer, reminiscent of blueberries, which are not only ornamental but also edible and attractive to birds.

This versatile plant typically grows to a height and spread of 4-8 metres over 10-20 years, making it suitable for a variety of garden sizes and styles. Its natural, graceful form requires little pruning, allowing it to develop into a beautiful specimen tree or act as an informal hedge or screen when planted in groups.
