Sorry, out of stock at the moment
Juneberry trees and hedging comes alive in spring, with its bronze and pink-tinged leaves and white flowers, before maturing into glossy green leaves that turn vibrant red and orange during the autumn months. Although it is not the fastest grower, with a growth rate of around 30-40cm per year, Juneberry hedging boasts year-round interest.
Juneberry is a fruiting hedge or tree – in fact, its delicious berries, which are said to taste similar to apples, are commonly used in gin! In the summertime, you will be able to eat the ripened berries off the hedge, although they are also very popular with birds, who tend to pick them all off before they ripen.
Amelanchier lamarckii should ideally be planted in moist but well-drained soil, preferably in exposed areas or sheltered sites with full sun coverage. Available as either a pot-grown or bare root shrub, Juneberry hedging is a generally low-maintenance hedge that makes an effective privacy screen in your garden and although not a native hedge species itself, it works perfectly as a complementary planting addition to a mixed native hedge.
Plant Snowy Mespilus in full sun to partial shade in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. It’s adaptable to various soil types but prefers moisture-retentive conditions. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it’s relatively drought-tolerant. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and size if desired. This hardy plant is generally resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance choice for UK gardens.
