The Nootka Cypress ‘Strict Weeper’ – Chamaecyparis nootkatensis is a stunning weeping conifer that combines elegant form with architectural impact. This cultivar features distinctly pendulous branches that cascade dramatically from a strong central leader, creating a narrow, columnar shape that adds vertical interest to gardens.

The foliage consists of flat, dark green sprays that hang in graceful curtains, maintaining their rich colour throughout the year. Each branch terminates in delicate, drooping branchlets that give the tree its characteristic weeping appearance. The bark is reddish-brown, developing an attractive furrowed texture as it matures.

Currently supplied at 150-175cm in height, this specimen makes an immediate impact when planted. It’s particularly effective as a focal point in formal gardens, contemporary designs, or Japanese-inspired spaces. The narrow, upright habit makes it suitable for smaller gardens where horizontal space is limited.

This cultivar shows excellent hardiness in our winters and maintains its architectural form without heavy maintenance. It’s particularly valued for its ability to create strong vertical elements in garden design while occupying minimal ground space.
