Japanese Cedar ‘Kyara Gold’ 80/100cm (5L)

Japanese Cedar ‘Kyara Gold’ – Cryptomeria japonica ‘Kyara Gold’ is a unique conifer that brings a spectacular golden glow to gardens throughout the year. The soft, feathery foliage emerges in brilliant yellow-gold hues in spring, creating a striking contrast against more traditional green conifers.

The needles are arranged in a spiral pattern around the branches, creating an elegant, cascading effect. During winter, the foliage takes on warm bronze tones, adding seasonal interest. The current size of 80/100cm makes it perfect for immediate impact in the garden, while still having room to develop its full character over time.

‘Kyara Gold’ thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil and appreciates a sheltered position away from harsh winds. In gardens, it performs best in full sun to partial shade, which helps maintain its vibrant golden colouration. Regular watering is essential during the establishment period, particularly in dry spells, though mature plants show good drought tolerance.

For optimal growth, apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring and mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. While naturally conical in form, light pruning in late winter or early spring can help maintain shape if desired. This variety shows excellent resistance to both winter cold and summer heat when established.

Perfect for creating focal points in borders or Japanese-style gardens, ‘Kyara Gold’ also works beautifully in large containers on patios. Its moderate growth rate makes it manageable for smaller spaces while still providing architectural interest throughout the seasons.
