Spindleberry ‘Red Cascade’ brings amazing autumn colour to gardens. This native shrub really comes into its own as summer ends, when the leaves turn brilliant shades of red and purple. The show gets even better when the bright pink seed capsules split open to reveal orange berries inside.

What makes ‘Red Cascade’ special is its particularly good fruit display and reliable autumn colour. The stems grow in a natural arching pattern that shows off the berries brilliantly. In spring and summer, it’s a neat green shrub that sits quietly in the background, letting other plants take the spotlight.

This shrub grows to around 2-3 metres high and wide, making it perfect for borders or woodland edges. The leaves are fresh green through summer, setting the stage for the autumn performance. Birds love the colourful berries, though they’re best left alone by humans.

The white flowers in late spring might seem modest, but they’re loved by pollinators. This shrub fits perfectly into natural planting schemes where it provides structure through the year and those wonderful autumn fireworks.

Plant your Spindleberry in any reasonable garden soil in sun or partial shade. It’s very easy to grow and needs little attention once settled in. A light trim in late winter keeps it tidy, but don’t prune too hard as this might reduce flowering and fruiting. It rarely suffers from pests or diseases and copes well with most conditions. Give it enough space to develop its natural shape for the best display
