The Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’, commonly known as the Purple Beech or Copper Beech, is a majestic tree that brings a touch of aristocratic charm to any British garden. This variety, celebrated for its deep purple, almost burgundy leaves, transforms throughout the seasons, offering a year-round display of colour and texture. In spring, the leaves emerge in a vibrant reddish-purple hue, maturing to a rich, dark purple in the summer, before turning a coppery bronze in autumn.

Ideal for large gardens and landscapes, the Purple Beech can grow into a grand specimen, providing both privacy and architectural interest. Its towering presence, which can reach up to 20 metres in height, makes it a splendid choice for avenues and large borders. The tree’s dense foliage also offers a haven for wildlife, supporting biodiversity in your garden.

The Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’ is not only aesthetically pleasing but also robust and adaptable. It thrives in well-drained soil and can tolerate a range of conditions, from full sun to partial shade. This resilience, combined with its low maintenance requirements, makes it a popular choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.

In summary, the Purple Beech is a versatile and striking tree. Its ability to create dramatic visual impact, along with its environmental benefits and ease of care, makes it an excellent choice for those looking to enhance their outdoor space with a specimen of enduring beauty and grandeur.
