This cultivar is renowned for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage, which intensifies in hue during the colder months, providing a warm contrast against the more common greens of the garden. Its spreading habit and relatively low height, typically reaching up to 1 metre, make it an excellent ground cover or border plant.
The Old Gold Juniper thrives in well-drained soil and is highly adaptable to a variety of conditions, including urban environments. It prefers full sun to partial shade, where its colours are most vibrant. This hardy shrub is also drought-resistant once established, making it a suitable choice for low-maintenance and water-efficient landscapes.
In addition to its ornamental value, Juniperus x pfitzeriana ‘Old Gold’ is prized for its ability to provide year-round interest. Its dense foliage offers excellent coverage for ground and provides habitat for wildlife. The shrub’s resilience to pests and diseases further adds to its appeal as a hassle-free addition to any garden.
