Autumn Interest Trees
Natural Germination: Larix laricina seeds naturally germinate with seasonal changes. To mimic this, sow the seeds in a cold frame during autumn. The cold winter months will stratify the seeds, preparing them for germination in spring. This process replicates their natural germination cycle, enhancing the success rate.
Artificial Stratification: For artificial stratification, soak the seeds for 24 hours, then drain and mix the Tamarack seeds with moist sand and refrigerate for 1-2 months. This simulates winter conditions, breaking seed dormancy. After stratification, plant the seeds in a warm, bright setting to promote germination. This method is ideal for areas with milder winters or for gardeners looking to start their growth season earlier.
Natural germination of Larch is much preferred over the artificial method.
