Autumn Interest
Natural Germination: Larix x eurolepis seeds naturally require a cold period to break dormancy. Sowing them outdoors in autumn allows them to experience natural stratification through the winter, simulating their native environment. This cold treatment prepares the seeds for germination in spring.
Artificial Stratification: For gardeners who prefer to start seeds indoors, artificial stratification is an effective method. This involves mixing the seeds with moist sand or peat moss and refrigerating them for 4-6 weeks. This mimics the natural winter conditions, ensuring a higher germination rate when planted.
Natural germination of Larch is much preferred over the artificial method.
