Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’, also known as Mock Orange ‘Lemoinei’, is a highly coveted deciduous shrub that brings an unrivalled level of fragrance and beauty to British gardens. Developed in France in the 1880s, this compact variety quickly gained favour among UK gardeners for its exceptional scent and stunning floral display. Growing to a manageable height of 2.5 metres, with a similar spread, Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ boasts a graceful, arching habit that adds structure and interest to borders, mixed shrub plantings, and even containers.
From May to June, this remarkable shrub erupts with a profusion of pure white, single flowers, each measuring about 2.5 cm in diameter and adorned with striking yellow stamens. The blooms are held in dazzling clusters of three to five along the branches, creating a breathtaking display that persists well into July and August. But it’s not just the visual appeal that sets Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ apart; the flowers emit an exceptionally strong, sweet fragrance that perfumes the air, transforming your garden into a true sensory paradise.
When you buy Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ from Yarrow Gardens, you can be confident that you are investing in a high-quality shrub that has been expertly grown and nurtured to thrive in British gardens. Our passionate team is always ready to provide advice and support to ensure that your Mock Orange ‘Lemoinei’ settles in quickly and flourishes for years to come. This adaptable shrub is easy to grow and maintain, tolerating pruning well to keep its size in check, making it an ideal choice for both experienced gardeners and those new to the joys of gardening.
To ensure your Philadelphus thrives, plant it in a spot with well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system. Once established, mock oranges are relatively drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering during extended dry periods. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the shrub to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune your ‘Lemoinei’ immediately after flowering, removing any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain a desired shape and promote healthy growth.
