Natural Germination: Pinus cembra seeds benefit from cold stratification. Sowing them outdoors in autumn allows them to undergo natural stratification during the winter, preparing them for sprouting in spring.
Artificial Stratification: For artificial stratification, mix the seeds then refrigerate at 2-5°C for about 90-120 days. This method simulates seasonal conditions, breaking the dormancy of the seeds. After stratification, sow the seeds in a warm environment, ideally between 18-22°C, to encourage germination.
Some customers will warm-stratify these seeds after soaking, before the cold statify for about 60 days.
