Black Pine ‘Green Tower’ – Pinus nigra is a striking columnar conifer that creates a strong vertical accent in gardens. Unlike the wide-spreading habit of regular black pines, this special variety grows straight upward in a neat, narrow column. The deep green needles grow densely along the upright branches, creating a rich, textured appearance that stays smart all year round. It’s brilliant for smaller gardens where space is tight but height is needed. This pine grows steadily, keeping its slim shape without much pruning. The needles are long and stiff, growing in pairs, catching the light beautifully on sunny days. In winter, the strong vertical shape stands out against the sky, adding structure when other plants are dormant. The narrow form makes it perfect for creating screens without taking up much ground space.

Plant your Green Tower Pine in full sun where it can grow unobstructed. It’s not fussy about soil type but needs good drainage. Water regularly in the first growing season until established, then only during long dry spells. A yearly feed with a general-purpose fertiliser in spring is enough. You can control the height by removing the central growing tip in spring, but otherwise, this pine needs very little pruning to keep its shape. It’s quite wind-resistant thanks to its narrow form, but still best to avoid very exposed sites.
