This lovely pine tree brings year-round interest to gardens with its dense, deep green needles. Black Pine ‘Oregon Green’ forms a neat, compact pyramid shape that adds structure and elegance to any space. Its dark green needles grow in pairs and stay on the tree for several years, giving a full, lush appearance throughout the seasons. The needles are quite long and straight, making this pine particularly eye-catching.
This pine grows at a steady pace, reaching about 6 metres in height over 20 years, making it suitable for most gardens. The neat, uniform growth means it needs very little pruning to maintain its attractive shape. In winter, the deep green colour stands out beautifully against frost or snow.
Black Pine ‘Oregon Green’ works brilliantly as a specimen tree or as part of a mixed border. It looks particularly good when paired with flowering shrubs or plants with contrasting foliage. Its compact size means it won’t overwhelm smaller gardens, while still providing that lovely evergreen presence all year round.
Black Pine ‘Oregon Green’ is quite easy to grow in British gardens. It thrives in full sun but will cope with partial shade, and adapts well to most soil types as long as they’re well-drained. Once established, it’s quite drought tolerant and doesn’t need much watering except during very dry spells. Plant in autumn or spring, and add some organic matter to the planting hole. No regular pruning is needed – just remove any dead or damaged branches if they appear. It’s generally pest-free and shows good resistance to our wet winters.
