Pinus radiata seeds typically germinate best when exposed to natural seasonal changes. Sowing the seeds in autumn allows them to experience the winter cold, which aids in breaking their dormancy and prepares them for sprouting in spring.
Artificial Stratification: For artificial stratification, mix the seeds with moist sand and refrigerate at 2-5°C for about 14 days. This process mimics the natural winter conditions, encouraging the seeds to break dormancy. After stratification, plant the seeds in a warm environment, ideally between 18-22°C, to promote germination.
