The Golden Locust ‘Frisia’ / False Acacia tree stands out with its glowing, golden-yellow leaves that light up gardens throughout spring and summer. This eye-catching tree adds a bright splash of colour that looks brilliant against blue skies and helps make darker corners feel sunnier. The leaves emerge a warm honey colour in spring, turning to bright yellow-green in summer, before putting on a lovely autumn show. In early summer, the tree produces sweetly scented white flowers that hang in clusters, looking rather like wisteria blooms. These are a treat for bees and other pollinators. The tree has an open, airy canopy that allows light through, meaning you can grow other plants beneath it. It grows at a medium pace and has an elegant shape that works well in both modern and traditional gardens.

Golden Locust ‘Frisia’ is a tough tree that grows happily in most garden soils, though it prefers them well-drained. It does best in full sun, which brings out the strongest leaf colour. While it’s drought-tolerant once established, water young trees regularly for the first two growing seasons. It doesn’t need much pruning – just remove any dead or crossing branches in late winter. Be mindful of thorns when handling. Feed with a general fertiliser in spring if growth seems slow.
