Xanthocyparis nootkatensis ‘Pendula’ is a truly remarkable conifer that brings a touch of elegance and sculptural beauty to any landscape.
This weeping form of the Nootka Cypress is characterised by its strongly pendulous branches that gracefully sweep downwards from a straight, upright trunk. The foliage consists of flat sprays of scale-like leaves in a rich, deep green colour that maintains its vibrancy throughout the year. As the tree matures, it develops a narrow, columnar form with a broader base, creating a distinctive cone-like shape.
The overall effect is one of a living green fountain or waterfall, offering a unique vertical accent in the garden. In spring, small inconspicuous cones may appear, adding subtle interest. ‘Pendula’ is highly valued for its architectural form, making it an excellent specimen tree or focal point in both formal and naturalistic garden designs.
Also known as Cupressus nootkatensis, Chamaecyparis nootkatensis and Callitropsis nootkatensis.
