Ever Red’ (also known as ‘Dissectum Nigrum’) is one of the most popular dwarf Japanese maples, celebrated for its beautiful weeping habit and exceptional colour retention.
The delicate, deeply-cut leaves emerge in spring covered with a silvery down, initially showing deep crimson tones. As summer progresses, the foliage deepens to rich burgundy, maintaining better colour than many red varieties. Autumn brings a spectacular finale with vibrant crimson shades.
This maple forms an elegant cascading shape, with feathery foliage draped on weeping branches that create movement in the garden. Its compact size, reaching only 1 metre high by 1.2 metres wide, makes it perfect for today’s smaller gardens and patios.
Small red flowers appear in spring, adding subtle detail to the display, while winged fruits in autumn provide additional interest. The tree’s naturally dense, spreading habit creates a beautiful dome shape that needs little pruning to maintain its form.
‘Ever Red’ performs best in partial shade, where its rich colours develop fully without fading. It appreciates moist, well-drained soil and makes an excellent container specimen or front-of-border feature.

We are a small family business based in Euxton, West Lancashire. We specialise in the supply of trees, shrubs both bare root & cell grown. Much of our stock is grown directly on site from seed or cuttings. Other stock is all UK sourced where possible.
We adhere to industry leading biosecurity measures, this ensures that our nursery remains clean and disease free.
We are DEFRA registered and our nursery is regularly inspected to confirm compliance with all current plant and plant health regulations.
