‘Garnet’ is one of the most graceful of the dissectum (cut-leaf) maples, prized for its beautiful weeping habit and rich leaf colour.

The deeply dissected leaves emerge in spring in bright burgundy, creating a delicate, lace-like effect that catches light beautifully. This rich colour holds well through summer, maintaining depth and vibrancy when many other red maples fade. In autumn, the foliage transforms into a spectacular display of bright scarlet.

This maple naturally forms an elegant dome shape with cascading branches that create movement in the garden. Its compact size, typically reaching just 2-2.5 metres in height and spread over 10 years, makes it perfect for today’s smaller gardens.

The weeping form and feathery foliage make ‘Garnet’ an ideal focal point, particularly beautiful when positioned where its graceful branches can cascade over walls or water features. It’s equally stunning in containers on patios or in courtyard gardens.

This variety thrives in dappled shade or a position with morning sun and afternoon shade. The delicate leaves appreciate protection from strong winds, making it perfect for sheltered garden spots where its beauty can be appreciated up close.

Despite its delicate appearance, ‘Garnet’ is relatively easy to grow and maintain. It’s hardy throughout most of Britain and, once established, needs little more than occasional light pruning to maintain its shape.
