‘Katsura’ is highly regarded among Japanese maples for its extraordinary spring emergence and compact growing habit.

The show begins in early spring when the small, delicate leaves unfurl in bright orange-yellow tones, creating a vibrant display that resembles subtle flowering. These leaves are smaller than typical Japanese maples, giving the tree a fine, elegant texture that catches light beautifully.

As the season progresses, the foliage gradually transitions to a soft green colour for summer, maintaining its delicate appearance. The autumn display brings another colour transformation, with the leaves turning to warm golden-orange tones before falling.

This variety naturally forms a compact, upright shape that’s perfect for smaller gardens or containers. Its moderate growth rate and manageable size make it ideal for today’s gardens, where space might be limited but impact is desired.

‘Katsura’ performs best in a position with morning sun and afternoon shade, where its delicate leaves can develop their best colours without scorching. The small leaf size makes it particularly suitable for Japanese-style gardens or any setting where a refined appearance is desired.

The tree’s year-round elegant structure and changing seasonal colours make it an excellent choice for prominent positions where its beauty can be appreciated throughout the year.
