Japanese Maple ‘Deshojo’ is a stunning small tree that brings amazing colour to gardens throughout the year. In spring, the new leaves emerge in a bright, salmon-pink shade before turning to a vibrant crimson-red. As summer arrives, the leaves mature to a lovely deep green, and then in autumn, they put on another spectacular show with fiery orange and red tones.
This maple grows into a lovely dome shape without much fuss. It’s perfect for smaller gardens or patios, reaching about 2.5 metres tall over 10 years. The delicate leaves are palm-shaped and create a lovely oriental feel.
Japanese maples have been grown in gardens for centuries. They were first brought to Britain in the 1800s and quickly became favourites in our gardens. The Deshojo variety is particularly cherished for its amazing spring colours.
This tree works brilliantly in pots and makes a perfect focal point for any garden. It looks great near water features or in courtyard gardens. The compact size means it’s ideal for growing in smaller spaces or adding interest to shady corners.
Plant your Deshojo in a sheltered spot away from strong winds. It grows best in slightly acid, well-drained soil in partial shade, though it can handle full sun if the soil stays moist. Water regularly in the first growing season to help roots establish. Add a layer of mulch in spring to keep roots cool and moist. This maple doesn’t need much pruning – just remove any dead or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. Feed container-grown trees with a balanced fertiliser in spring.
Please note: Decorative pots shown are for display purposes only. Your tree will be supplied in a standard plastic nursery pot shown in the other pictures.
