Fresh spring leaves unfold in delicate shrimp-pink shades before changing to yellow-green with purple undersides through summer. Drooping yellow flower clusters appear from late spring into summer, followed by distinctive winged red fruits in autumn.
At a current height of 120-150cm, the ‘Prinz Handjéry’ Sycamore is a relatively young tree with plenty of room to grow. Its distinctive lobed leaves emerge in spring with a vibrant green hue, gradually maturing to a deep, rich green over the summer months. In autumn, the foliage transforms into a stunning display of golden-yellow, providing a beautiful seasonal focal point in the garden.
The tree’s smooth, grey bark develops an attractive, textured appearance as it matures, adding visual interest throughout the year. Its compact size and tidy growth habit make the ‘Prinz Handjéry’ Sycamore an excellent choice for gardens with limited space, where it can be used as a specimen plant, in small groups, or as part of a mixed border.
Sycamore ‘Prinz Handjéry’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained, moist soil. It is a hardy, low-maintenance tree that can tolerate a range of soil types, from clay to sandy loam. Regular watering is recommended, especially during periods of drought, to ensure the tree remains healthy and vigorous.
Pruning is generally only required to remove any damaged or crossing branches, and is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Avoid pruning during the summer months, as this can stress the tree.
Fertilising the tree in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser can help promote healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application rates and timing.
