Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘White Beauty’ is a striking dwarf conifer that brings year-round architectural interest to gardens. This compact Japanese False Cypress cultivar features distinctive cream-white new growth that creates a stunning contrast against the mature green foliage beneath. The soft, feathery sprays of scale-like leaves form a dense, naturally rounded shape that requires minimal pruning to maintain its elegant form.
Perfect for small gardens, rockeries, and container planting, ‘White Beauty’ adds a bright focal point without overwhelming neighbouring plants. The slow-growing nature of this cultivar makes it particularly suitable for mixed borders and Japanese-style gardens where controlled growth is desired.
In British gardens, this hardy conifer thrives in most conditions but performs best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Position in full sun to partial shade – though the whitest foliage colour develops in brighter locations. While tolerant of exposed sites, protect from harsh winds to preserve the delicate white tips.
This cultivar shows excellent resistance to both frost and drought once established, making it a reliable choice for British gardens. The compact nature and striking variegation make it particularly valuable in smaller spaces where year-round interest is desired.
