The Ginkgo tree is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s the last surviving member of an ancient family of trees that lived alongside dinosaurs. This beautiful tree offers unique fan-shaped leaves that turn a brilliant golden yellow in autumn. The leaves look like little fans, which makes them stand out from other trees in any garden. These trees are perfect for creating a striking focal point in your garden. They grow slowly and neatly, making them suitable for both large and smaller gardens. Their distinctive shape and stunning autumn colour will bring joy year after year. Ginkgo trees are incredibly tough and can handle most conditions, including pollution, making them brilliant choices for town gardens. They’re also very long-lived, so you’ll be planting something that future generations can enjoy. The branches grow in a lovely pattern that looks particularly handsome in winter when the leaves have fallen.

Ginkgo trees are remarkably easy to look after. They’ll grow in most soils but prefer well-drained ground in full sun or partial shade. While young trees need regular watering for the first couple of growing seasons, mature specimens are quite drought-tolerant. No regular pruning is needed – just remove any dead or crossing branches in late winter. Feed with a general fertiliser in spring if growth seems slow. These trees are very resistant to pests and diseases, making them practically maintenance-free.
