Bring a touch of Japanese serenity to your garden with the Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’. This dwarf conifer, a cultivar of Pinus parviflora, is a horticultural gem that packs a lot of charm into a small package. The ‘Tempelhof’ variety is renowned for its compact, globe-shaped growth habit, which naturally forms a pleasing rounded silhouette without the need for extensive pruning. Its needles, arranged in bundles of five, display a beautiful blue-green hue that adds a cool, calming presence to any garden setting. As the tree matures, it develops a slightly flattened top, reminiscent of trees seen in traditional Japanese landscapes or bonsai collections.

This slow-growing pine typically reaches only 1-2 metres in height over 10 years, making it an excellent choice for small gardens, rock gardens, or even large containers. In spring, the appearance of small brown cones adds further interest to this already captivating tree. The ‘Tempelhof’ cultivar, named after the famous Berlin airport, brings a piece of horticultural history to your garden while offering year-round beauty and easy care.

Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’ is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. It prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. When planting, ensure good drainage, as this pine doesn’t tolerate waterlogged conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep root system, then reduce watering as it matures. This tree is drought-tolerant once established. Pruning isn’t usually necessary, but you can remove dead or damaged branches in late winter if needed. To maintain its compact shape, you can pinch back new growth in spring. ‘Tempelhof’ is generally pest and disease resistant, but keep an eye out for pine needle scale or spider mites. Protect from harsh winds, especially in winter. With proper care, this beautiful pine can be a long-lasting feature in your garden.

Please note: Decorative pots shown are for display purposes only. Your tree will be supplied in a standard plastic nursery pot shown in the other pictures.
