Natural Germination: Stone Pine seeds benefit from a period of cold stratification to break dormancy. Sowing the seeds outdoors in autumn, allowing them to experience the natural winter cold, can effectively stimulate germination in spring.
Artificial Stratification: For controlled germination, mix the seeds with a moist substrate (like sand or moss) and optionally refrigerate for about a month. This process mimics the natural winter conditions, preparing the seeds for successful germination when planted in warmer conditions. The cold stratification isn’t required, however it does help germination rates.
