Pinus sylvestris seeds typically require a period of cold stratification to germinate effectively. Sowing the seeds outdoors in autumn allows them to experience the winter cold, which aids in breaking their dormancy and prepares them for sprouting in spring.

Artificial Stratification: For artificial stratification, mix the seeds with moist sand and refrigerate at 2-5°C for about 60-90 days. This process mimics the natural winter conditions, encouraging the seeds to break dormancy. After stratification, plant the seeds in a warm environment, ideally between 18-22°C, to promote germination.
