The Purple Willow is a lovely small weeping tree that brings grace and movement to any garden. Its slim purple stems arch elegantly towards the ground, creating a fountain-like effect that looks stunning all year round. In spring, the tree produces small, silvery catkins before the narrow, blue-green leaves appear. These leaves turn a soft yellow in autumn, adding seasonal interest. The compact size of this willow makes it perfect for smaller gardens, and it works brilliantly near water features or as a stand-alone focal point. This tree originally comes from Europe and has been grown in British gardens since Victorian times. The Purple Willow grows fairly quickly, reaching about 2.5 metres in height, making it ideal if you want to add structure to your garden without overwhelming the space.

The Purple Weeping Willow is quite easy to look after. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in any decent garden soil – it’s particularly happy in damp conditions but will grow well in most spots. Water regularly in the first growing season to help establish a good root system. After that, it needs little attention beyond removing any damaged branches in late winter. A yearly mulch in spring will keep it thriving. This willow is very hardy and copes well with British winters.
