Taxodium distichum ‘Pévé Minaret’ is a charming dwarf cultivar of the Swamp Cypress. This compact tree offers a unique twist on the classic species.

‘Pévé Minaret’ stands out with its dense, narrow conical shape. It grows slowly, reaching only 2-3 metres in height over 10 years. This makes it perfect for smaller gardens.

The tree boasts soft, feathery foliage that’s a joy to touch. Its needle-like leaves are arranged in neat, horizontal tiers. This creates an attractive, layered appearance.

In autumn, the foliage turns a warm, rusty-brown colour before falling. This provides a lovely seasonal display in gardens.

Despite its small size, ‘Pévé Minaret’ still retains the Swamp Cypress’s ability to tolerate wet conditions. It’s an excellent choice for damp areas where other trees might struggle.

During winter, its reddish-brown bark adds interest to the garden. The tree’s compact form also makes it a good choice for container growing.

By planting ‘Pévé Minaret’, you’re adding a miniature version of a majestic wetland tree to your garden. Its unique form and adaptability make it a valuable addition to any landscape.

Taxodium distichum ‘Pévé Minaret’ is straightforward. Plant it in full sun or partial shade. It prefers moist, slightly acidic soil but adapts well to various conditions. This tree can tolerate wet soils and even occasional flooding. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it’s quite adaptable to different moisture levels. Pruning is generally not necessary due to its compact form. If needed, prune lightly in late winter. Feed annually in spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser. ‘Peve Minaret’ is generally pest and disease resistant. However, keep an eye out for spider mites in dry conditions. In colder areas, provide some winter protection for young trees until they’re well-established.
