‘Phoenix’ brings dramatic colour changes and architectural beauty to any garden setting, living up to its legendary namesake.

The show begins in spring when palmate leaves emerge in coral pink with delicate yellow-green veining, creating a luminous effect that echoes the mythical firebird. As the season progresses, the foliage transitions through yellow to a lustrous green, maintaining interest throughout summer.

The autumn finale is particularly spectacular, with leaves transforming into a kaleidoscope of orange, red, and yellow tones. This seasonal display is further enhanced by the tree’s distinctive bark, which features beautiful silver streaking against ruby colouring, providing winter interest.

Growing to approximately 5 metres (potentially up to 8m), this variety forms a compact, broad shape that’s perfect for creating focal points in larger gardens. Despite its ultimate size, its slow growth rate makes it suitable for container growing in its early years.

‘Phoenix’ performs best in sheltered positions with light shade, where its delicate foliage can develop fully without scorching. It thrives in moist but well-drained soil, preferring slightly acidic to neutral conditions.
