The Deodar Cedar ‘Feeling Blue’ is a stunning evergreen conifer that brings a touch of elegance to any garden. This dwarf variety of the Himalayan Cedar is perfect for smaller spaces, growing slowly to form a compact, mounding shape. Its soft, blue-green needles create a beautiful contrast against other plants, making it a standout feature in your garden.
‘Feeling Blue’ is an excellent choice for rock gardens, containers, or as a low-growing accent plant. Its gentle cascading habit adds texture and interest to borders and slopes. This hardy tree is low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for busy gardeners.
The Deodar Cedar has a rich history, originally hailing from the western Himalayas. It has been cultivated for centuries and was introduced to Britain in the 1800s. The ‘Feeling Blue’ cultivar is a more recent addition, bred for its compact size and striking blue-green foliage.
Despite its exotic origins, this cedar adapts well to UK climates. It’s a great option for adding year-round colour and structure to your garden. The dense foliage also provides shelter for small birds and wildlife, enhancing your garden’s biodiversity.
Deodar Cedar ‘Feeling Blue’ is relatively easy to care for. Plant it in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil but can tolerate a range of conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep root system. Once established, it’s quite drought-tolerant. Pruning isn’t necessary, but you can shape it lightly in late winter if desired. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. This cedar is generally pest and disease-resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.
