Cedrus libani, the Lebanese Cedar, is more than just a tree; it’s a symbol of strength and endurance. These seeds provide a rare opportunity to grow this majestic and historically significant tree in your own space. Known for its imposing stature and lush, evergreen foliage, the Lebanese Cedar is a living testament to nature’s grandeur.
Originating from the mountains of Lebanon and the Eastern Mediterranean region, Cedrus libani has been revered throughout history. It’s celebrated for its durable wood and majestic presence. Growing Lebanese Cedar from seeds allows you to connect with this ancient lineage, bringing a piece of historical significance into your garden.
The Lebanese Cedar thrives in well-drained soil and enjoys full sun exposure. As it matures, it forms a wide, conical shape with dense, dark green needles. This tree is not just an ornamental wonder; it’s also a resilient species, adaptable to various climates and conditions.
Planting Cedrus libani seeds is a commitment to nurturing a piece of history. These seeds, once sprouted, will grow into trees that can live for centuries, creating a legacy in your landscape. The Lebanese Cedar is a testament to endurance, withstanding time and elements with grace and dignity.
We also have a full range of Cedar trees; Altas Cedar – Cedrus atlantica, Cedar of Lebanon – Cedrus libani & Deodar Cedar – Cedrus deodara.
Natural Germination: Lebanese Cedar seeds typically germinate in their native mountainous environments, where temperature fluctuations between day and night promote germination. To mimic these conditions, plant the seeds in autumn and expose them to the natural cold of winter, which helps in breaking the seed dormancy.
Artificial Stratification: If natural conditions are not available, artificial stratification can be used. Soak the seeds in water for 24-48 hours, then mix them with moist sand or vermiculite and store them in a refrigerator for about 4 weeks. This cold treatment simulates winter conditions, preparing the seeds for germination. After stratification, plant the seeds in a well-draining soil mix and maintain a consistent temperature of about 18-22°C.
