Dahlia Black Forest Ruby stands as a triumph in dahlia breeding, having earned the prestigious Fleuroselect Gold Medal for its exceptional garden performance and stunning visual impact. This remarkable variety produces an abundance of single to double flowers that showcase a magnificent spectrum of red hues, ranging from vibrant scarlet through to the deepest wine shades. Each bloom creates a dramatic contrast against the plant’s distinctive dark foliage, making this dahlia an absolute showstopper in summer and autumn borders.

Growing to approximately 70cm in height, Black Forest Ruby offers the perfect stature for middle-of-the-border planting, where its rich burgundy leaves and jewel-toned flowers can be appreciated from every angle. The dark foliage intensifies the brilliance of each flower. This compact habit makes it equally suitable for larger containers on patios and terraces, where you can enjoy the blooms up close.

The flowering period extends from midsummer through to the first frosts, providing months of continuous colour when many other plants are beginning to fade. The variety’s ability to produce both single and semi-double flowers on the same plant adds an element of delightful unpredictability, with each bloom offering its own unique character. Butterflies and pollinating insects adore the accessible centres of the single flowers, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
