Autumn Interest Trees

Natural Germination: Larix kaempferi seeds thrive in natural conditions, simulating their native habitat. In autumn, mimic the natural drop of seeds by sowing them in a cold frame. The chilling winter months will break their dormancy, readying them for spring germination. This process aligns with the seeds’ natural cycle, ensuring a higher germination rate.

Artificial Stratification: To artificially stratify Japanese Larch seeds, mix them with damp sand and refrigerate for about 1-2 months. This method simulates the natural winter conditions, tricking the seeds into breaking dormancy. After stratification, sow the seeds in a warm, light environment, which will encourage sprouting. This controlled approach is ideal for regions with milder winters or for a head start on the growing season.

Natural germination of Larch is much preferred over the artificial method.
