The Wild Cherry Tree – Prunus avium, standing at an impressive 250-300cm in a 25L pot, is a stunning addition to any garden or landscape. This native British tree is beloved for its beautiful spring blossoms, summer fruits, and vibrant autumn foliage. At this size, it’s already well-established and will make an immediate impact in your outdoor space. The white flowers appear in April-May, attracting bees and other pollinators, followed by small, edible cherries in summer that are a favourite with birds. Come autumn, the leaves turn a spectacular mix of yellows, oranges, and reds.

This Wild Cherry is perfect for creating a focal point in larger gardens, as part of a native hedgerow, or in a wildlife-friendly planting scheme. Its elegant, upright form develops a broad, rounded crown as it matures, providing dappled shade in summer. The smooth, reddish-brown bark adds year-round interest and becomes more pronounced with age.

As a native species, the Wild Cherry is well-adapted to UK conditions and supports a wide range of wildlife. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to enhance biodiversity in their garden. The tree’s fast growth rate means it will continue to develop quickly once planted, potentially reaching heights of 20-30 meters at full maturity.

The 25L pot size ensures the tree has a well-developed root system, giving it the best start when transplanted into your garden. This substantial specimen will provide instant structure and height, perfect for those who don’t want to wait years for a tree to establish.

Plant your Wild Cherry in a sunny or partially shaded position in well-drained soil. While adaptable, it prefers slightly acidic to neutral soils. Water regularly for the first growing season to help establish a strong root system. Once established, it’s relatively drought-tolerant. Pruning is generally not necessary but can be done in late summer to early autumn if required. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth. This hardy tree is generally resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.
