Viburnum tinus ‘Eve Price’ is a star performer in UK gardens, offering beauty and interest throughout the year. This evergreen shrub, a cultivar of the popular laurustinus, is compact and well-behaved, typically growing to about 1.5 to 2 metres tall and wide. It’s perfect for smaller gardens, hedges, or mixed borders.

The shrub’s main appeal lies in its glossy, dark green leaves that provide a lush backdrop all year round. In late autumn, pink buds begin to form, creating a lovely contrast against the foliage. These buds open into clusters of fragrant white flowers from late winter to early spring, bringing cheer to the garden when little else is in bloom.

After flowering, small dark blue berries appear, adding another layer of interest to the plant. These berries are popular with birds, making ‘Eve Price’ a wildlife-friendly choice. The berries often last well into winter, sometimes appearing alongside the next season’s flowers.

‘Eve Price’ is known for its dense, rounded growth habit, which makes it excellent for creating privacy screens or windbreaks. It’s also a great choice for a low-maintenance garden, as it’s generally pest and disease-resistant and doesn’t require much pruning to keep its shape.

In UK gardens, this Viburnum is valued for its hardiness and adaptability. It can tolerate a range of soil types and conditions, though it thrives in slightly acidic, well-drained soil. It’s also quite tolerant of coastal conditions, making it a good choice for seaside gardens.

Whether used as a standalone specimen, part of a mixed shrub border, or clipped into a formal hedge, Viburnum tinus ‘Eve Price’ brings structure, colour, and wildlife value to the garden. Its ability to flower during the coldest months makes it particularly valuable in the UK climate, where winter interest is always welcome.

Plant Viburnum tinus ‘Eve Price’ in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. It’s adaptable to most soil types but prefers slightly acidic conditions. Water regularly during the first growing season, then only during dry spells once established. Prune after flowering to maintain shape. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
