This delicate yet hardy dissectum maple is cherished for its naturally compact growth and stunning seasonal colour changes.

The tree emerges in spring with delicate bronze foliage, each leaf intricately cut to create a fine, lacy appearance. As summer progresses, the leaves develop a lovely golden-green hue that brings a soft, luminous quality to shaded garden areas. The autumn finale is particularly special, with the foliage turning brilliant orange.

‘Dissectum Rubrifolium’ grows slowly and naturally forms a beautiful dome shape without need for heavy pruning. Its compact size, reaching only about 3 feet high and 4 feet wide over 25 years, makes it perfect for today’s smaller gardens. This manageable size also makes it an excellent choice for containers and patios.

The weeping branches create graceful layers that catch light beautifully, especially when backlit by afternoon sun. This variety performs best with some shelter from strong morning sun, thriving in positions that receive gentle afternoon light.

This maple is ideal for creating focal points in Japanese-style gardens, rock gardens, or intimate courtyard settings. Its small size and elegant form also make it perfect for containers where its changing colours can be appreciated up close.

Despite its delicate appearance, this is a hardy little tree that, once established, provides years of beauty with minimal maintenance. It simply needs a sheltered position with consistent moisture to thrive.
